SafeHere

Context-Aware Safety Intelligence
for Cities and Citizens

A citizen-powered platform measuring real-time perceived safety to bridge the gap between crime statistics and lived experience

The Safety Data Gap

Cities are expected to manage public safety in real time, yet most decisions rely on retrospective crime statistics and infrequent perception surveys.Crime statistics capture reported incidents.
Surveys provide occasional snapshots.
Neither reflects how safety is actually experienced across locations, times, and demographic groups. As a result, cities often lack continuous insight into where and when people feel unsafe and whether interventions are actually improving the situation.

Safety Intelligence, Powered by Citizens

SafeHere transforms lived safety experiences into a structured, real-time data layer.Users can quickly rate how safe they feel in specific locations and contexts. These signals are aggregated into anonymized safety insights that help institutions identify patterns, monitor changes over time, and evaluate interventions.Instead of episodic reports and static surveys, SafeHere provides continuous safety intelligence.

HOW IT WORKS

Step 1Users submit short safety ratings directly on a map.Step 2Each input captures contextual variables such as time of day, environment, and social situation.Step 3The system aggregates thousands of micro-experiences into structured safety intelligence.Step 4Cities and institutions receive anonymized dashboards showing perception hotspots, risk patterns, and safety trends.

Pilot

SafeHere is currently operating as a minimum viable product with external testing. The pilot phase focuses on Swiss urban environments to validate:• user engagement and rating density
• perception hotspot detection
• institutional dashboard development
Initial focus cities include Bern and Zurich, with expansion to additional European cities planned..

Why Safety Perception Matters

Research consistently shows that objective crime rates and perceived safety correlate only weakly.Large portions of harassment and interpersonal violence remain underreported. At the same time, traditional perception surveys provide only static snapshots.SafeHere fills this gap by creating a continuous, context-aware safety data layer that complements existing statistics and enables evidence-based prevention.

Long Term Vision

SafeHere aims to become the safety equivalent of real-time traffic data.By continuously capturing how safety is experienced in different places and contexts, the platform provides a new form of urban intelligence that helps cities move from reactive responses to proactive safety management.Over time, SafeHere can support a wide range of environments, including public transport systems, campuses, large-scale events, and other high-density human environments

Founder

SafeHere was founded by Kaya Häfeli, whose background combines forensic psychology, crime science, and enforcement experience. Her work focuses on behavioral risk assessment, prevention strategy, and the intersection of data and institutional decision-making.SafeHere translates these principles into a digital governance tool designed to improve how cities understand and manage safety.
